As your Club continues to develop all three of our sports in the coming year, a comprehensive review of our sport structures recommended we adopt a common structure across all sports with each represented on the Management Committee by a Convenor and each sport being organised on a day-to-day basis by a Head Coach dedicated to their respective sport.

As part of our continuous improvement programme for squash we are pleased to announce the launch of a new comprehensive squash programme designed around the sessions members have indicated are most important to them.  Central to this programme is provision of weekly “free to member” coaching sessions for both juniors and seniors.  This mirrors similar arrangements in both tennis and hockey and we hope these will be both well attended and popular.

This new programme has been designed to be both affordable and sustainable in the long-term.  At a minimum 530 hours per annum, this programme also offers dedicated coaching support to those looking to develop their playing standard in a coordinated and structured way.  Individuals selected to specific squads will receive individual invitation letters before Easter with details of the 9 week summer block which starts with the first of our new Adult Beginners/Improvers Coaching sessions on Sunday 19th April and runs through to Sunday 21st June.

Members will note the availability of courts for play on both Monday and Thursday afternoons.  This has been facilitated to enable senior members, for whom this is a convenient time on a weekday, to access court time.

Junior members wishing to take up squash, or to improve their play, are invited to attend Junior Club Day activities on a Saturday which are free of charge.  ¹ Junior Club Day commences with a 45 minute coaching session and is followed by 45 minutes of free play so that those who attended coaching can practise what they’ve be taught and put it into practise.

Senior members wishing to take up squash, or to improve their play, are invited to attend Adult Beginners/Improvers Coaching which precedes Senior Club Night on a Sunday evening, both of which are free of charge.  ² Senior Club Night will be coach led and organised for 30 minutes each week to integrate new players into Club Night activities and to help inject some variation, fun and games into the evening.

Finally, we expect our new squash programme to be led by Stuart George who has been offered the position on Head Squash Coach.  Stuart is a product of our already fantastic junior squash coaching programme and is earning a Scotland wide reputation as a great squash coach, as well as currently being ranked in the Top 10 in Scotland.  I am sure every member will join the Management Committee is wishing Stuart every success in this role.

The aim of your Management Committee remains to make our already great Club even better.  We hope members enjoy the new squash coaching programme and look forward to developing and growing both the programme and the players in it as we evolve our Club both on and off the court!
