The Squash Section of Giffnock Tennis Squash & Hockey Club have had their most successful season ever.

The squash section were presented with all of the major prizes at the recent West of Scotland presentation dinner.

They were voted ‘West Club of the Year 2014’, for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Kevin Moran, Giffnock’s number 1 player was voted ‘West Senior Player of the Year 2014’.

Patrick O’Sullivan, Giffnock’s top Junior and Scotland U17 Champion, was voted ‘West Junior Player of the Year 2014’.

Giffnock’s first team also won the West First Division this year and were presented with the very unusual annual award – a double handed engraved sword !

The 4th team and the 6th team also gained promotion to higher leagues this year and are looking forward to a tough challenge next year.

6 Giffnock juniors, Patrick O’Sullivan, Mark Coyle, Jonathan Brady (Team 1), Chris Murphy, Joseph O’Sullivan and Daniel O’Sullivan (Team 2) played against each other for St Ninian’s in the final of the Scottish Schools Squash Competition with team 1 winning.

Along with these juniors, 7 others joined them to represent the West of Scotland at the end of season inter-regionals. They were Hamish Buchanan, Adam Hunter, Oonagh O’Sullivan, Craig Thomson, Harry Anderson, Albeer Mehmood and Alex Ross.

Kevin Moran, Giffnock’s number one player has also been selected to represent Scotland in the forthcoming 2014 Commonwealth Games and will be playing his matches at Scotstoun.
