Courts

There still seems to be an increase in squash court demand, however, to avoid disappointment, make sure you book your court  – remember  - no stamp / no court !!!

Booking stamps can be purchased at the bar, 50p.

New thermostats have been fitted on both courts.  This should make the heating more efficient and, at the same time, maintain the playing temperature throughout the winter months

Leagues
Following a weak start to the season, at the half way stage of the West of Scotland leagues, most of the teams are in a strong position in their respective divisions. (Check the notice board for up to date league information or visit
www.west-squash.org).

Two junior players, Stewart George and Stephen Parry, are now regularly playing  in the Senior teams, and it’s good to see some fresh faces ‘breaking’ into the teams

World Team Player
Congratulations to Jamie MacAuley, Giffnock’s 1st Team - No 1 player, who was recently selected to travel to India to be part of Scotland’s team to play in the 21st ICL World Men’s Team Squash Championships. Unfortunately the team were drawn in the same group as Australia who eventually lost in the final to England.

Training

Squash and Multi-sport training continues on a Sunday evening at 7.30

This is followed by organized squash games, 8.30 onwards.
Start training now for the second half of the season !!!!

10 Reasons to play Squash

Although competitive squash is considered a seasonal ‘winter’ sport, the courts are available for play and used all year round..Playing Squash

Courts
Giffnock have 2 standard competition courts ‘back to back’ with viewing gallery.
The courts can be booked for 40 minutes at a time by purchasing a booking stamp from the Club bar (50p) and attaching onto the booking sheets in the squash court corridor.

Racketball can also be played on the Squash Courts.

Teams
Giffnock have 4 Gents teams and 1 Ladies team and have competed in the West of Scotland League for many years.

Ladies 1st Team are in the 2nd Division ‘W of S’ League

For current positions and results go to www.west-squash.org

Tournaments and Competitions
The Club has 4 Gents Teams and 1 Ladies Team which play once a week in the West of Scotland Leagues throughout the Squash season.During the Squash season, a ‘Handicapped Tournament’ is organised on the first Saturday afternoon of the month. The first 12 players to ‘signup’ for the tournament are guaranteed a place.

There is an annual Christmas Tournament which is also handicapped.

Mini Leagues
Monthly Mini Leagues are most popular during the official squash season (October – March)
The Mini League structure is leagues of 5 players operating with a promotion and relegation system during a timescale of one calendar month. 2 players are promoted and 2 players are relegated each month and this stimulates competition with matches against new opposition each month.

Enthusiastic players continue to arrange and play either Mini League matches or challenge matches throughout the summer months.

Coaching
Coaching for adults is included during the Sunday Evening club night which runs from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm.
Individual coaching is given by the club coach, and many club members are willing to pass on hints, tips and play in practice games.Juniors
At present, there are no Junior Teams representing the club, unfortunately there are no West of Scotland Junior Leagues at present.
There are several junior Mini Leagues that operate in the same way as the adult Mini Leagues.
