Welcome
to Giffnock Hockey Club
The first half of the hockey season is now behind us and we have gone
into a short shutdown over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Sadly we have withdrawn the Gents 5th XI from
the West District League
due to the lack of numbers.
We will however join with Clydesdale who are
experiencing a similar problem with their 6th XI and will play "friendlies".
This season the men's section are supporting the West District’s
indoor initiative and the team has got off to a great start.
Indoor hockey in the West now has a quality venue to play in, the Lagoon
Centre Paisley.
Because of a serious problem with the refrigeration plant and the sub floor
structure at the centre, the opportunity has been given to Scottish Hockey
to lay their indoor carpet for competition.
As a result of this opening the indoor international matches between Scotland
and England have been resurrected after a break of 14 years.
These matches
will happen on the 21st,22nd and 23rd December and the West District Indoor
Youth Cup Finals (U10's,U12's, U14's and U16's) will held throughout the
weekend as well. Tickets cost £5 per day or £8 for the weekend
with U16's and senior citizens getting in free.
Check out the club's website for up to date hockey league tables and news. We are also looking at the possibility of having team selection sheets on the site with players being able to log in to confirm their availability.

News
The Scottish Hockey Union are working to complete a coaching audit, followed by a Workforce Development Plan exercise. The audit will build on information the SHU currently hold on the database and will establish:
- The number of qualified hockey coaches;
- Their demographic characteristics;
- Levels of education and certification;
- The level at which they coach;
- Their activity levels;
- Frequency of coaching
- Other relevant information on coach characteristics and deployment.
Clubs, Local Authorities, individual coaches and other providers of hockey coaching or facilities are being invited to assist the SHU in providing as much factual evidence as possible to ensure that the plans we develop are appropriate, accurate and well targeted.
